SPAN 101 - Beginning Spanish I (3 Credits)
Grammar, composition, conversation, reading, laboratory use. Introduction to the elementary aspects of Spanish. Review of elementary Spanish for beginning students of the language. Students with credit for a higher level course in Spanish may not take this course.

Prerequisite: SPAN 305 and SPAN 306. This course will examine literature written in Spanish from the perspective of transatlantic literary movements or genres. Students will learn about various cultures that make up the Spanish-speaking world through reading and analysis of texts from both sides of the Atlantic representing the diverse geographic areas of the Spanish-speaking world.

SPAN 321 - Culture of Service and Social Action in the Hispanic World (3 Credits)
Prerequisites: SPAN 202A, SPAN 205, or Permission of Instructor.
Examines concepts of service and social action as a reaction to various social problems in Spain, Latin America and the United States such as poverty, socio-political inequality, gender, and race, as expressed in literary and historical texts, film, art and music. Required community service in addition to regular class meetings.

Prerequisite: SPAN 202A or equivalent. The main objective of this course is to achieve communicative competence in medical Spanish. This will be achieved by practicing vocabulary/grammatical structures within the context of the medical professions. Students will practice their language skills by means of task-based, pair/group activities covering the most common medical procedures. Classes will be in Spanish.
