Through flexible requirements, the history minor introduces students to historical processes, institutions, and methodology. Study of the past through the history minor emphasizes critical thinking, collaborative and individual learning, research, and written, oral, and digital communication, skills which students can use in their majors and in their post-UMW lives.

HIST 299 Introduction to the Study of History may be included.

At least 9 credits must be at the 300-400 level.

Includes no more than 6 credits of HIST 491 Individual Study (with department approval) or HIST 499B Internship (with department approval).

Includes 400-level seminars if HIST 299 Introduction to the Study of History is completed or if HIST 299 is not completed but students have permission of the instructor and department chair.

HIST 485 Historical Research may be included in the minor if HIST 299 Introduction to the Study of History has been successfully completed and with department approval.
